How To Rent Out Or Sell Your Used Medical Equipment

Make A List Of The Used Medical Equipment

The first thing to do is to make a list of all the equipment, home and hospital equipment, that you are planning to sell or rent out, and then proceed to look for companies or even small clinics that would be interested to purchase or at times lease, the used medical equipment that you are offering. Be sure that when completing the list of equipment too include the following in the notes:

  • the brand and model
  • the dimensions of the equipment
  • the condition and age
  • service record, if applicable

These are some of the most important information that potential buyers would ask from you.  Remember to be honest when making this list, the last thing you want is for a potential buyer to come and look at the equipment only to realize that is was wrongly advertised. This list will be your first step in knowing how to rent out medical equipment or even sell it.

Take Photos

  • The next step in selling off all your medical equipment, (used or unused) is to take photos of each piece of equipment as well as take photos of each part of the equipment you are selling, or leasing if you prefer. This is important because potential buyers or renters would ask to be shown how the equipment looks like. This will also show them that your medical equipment is still in good shape and that it is free from any damages. Usually about three to four photographs of every dimension of the equipment for sale (or rent) is enough for the buyers (or renters). If there is damage on the equipment be sure to point it – this will show that you are a trustworthy seller.
  • In addition, the accessories that come with the medical equipment can also be sold so the equipment you would be selling can have additional value. Most of the time, these accessories cost a lot to add on or buy separately and if the used home medical equipment you are selling already has the needed accessories, then it would have added value and you can charge a little extra. Remember to list the equipment with all its accessories if you plan to sell together.

Spread The Word

The next thing to do when you plan to sell or rent your medical equipment is to locate companies or clinics that make use of the products that you are offering. Look for the person in charge of requisition or purchasing department and make an offer. You might need to make a lot of calls in the beginning and the first cold calls may be a little awkward and uncomfortable to do but after a couple of days or so, you would be able to build up more confidence and you would be able to make offers easily. Being polite and friendly is always the best way to get a foot in the door. If possible try to setup a face to face meeting as this will help to promote a feeling of trust with the potential client. Remember that for the most part you will have to “sell” yourself to a client before you try to sell your product.

Another option would be to contact companies that also sell used medical and hospital equipment. Set up an appointment and work out some kind of deal where they would buy your products and sell it on their web sites or at their physical stores. Discuss pricing with these companies and make sure that you will get a good profit off your medical equipment. There is a big market for used medical equipment out there, it is simply up to you to take advantage of it. Once you start looking around you will be amazed to see just how many potential clients are out there.
